Contacts Database

This Contacts Database uses a Rekall frontend and a MySQL backend to provide a feature-rich contacts database that can be accessed concurrently by different users over the internet. The connection is secured and compressed by using Stunnel.

The database has been developed for the Primary Club, which is a cricketer's charity that provides sporting and recreation activities for the visually impaired. The charity raised £170,000 last year, but still had to turn down many requests for support. In order to meet these requests, the entirely volunteer run group needs to expand and to do so successfully requires a a centrally accessible database.

Faced with this requirement and an obviously tight budget, using Rekall and MySQL was a natural choice. The clear separation of frontend and backend makes internet access easy to implement. Rekall and MySQL are Open Source projects and the setup can support Windows and Linux clients concurrently.

MySQL is the world's most popular open-source database. Rekall has a rapidly growing user community. For more information please visit Rekall @ No Bad Puppy. The progress of this project has been helped immeasurably by the input of the authors of Rekall, Mike and John.
